Marriage Quotes…

“A happy marriage is a long conversation which always seems too short.” All I know is… Being with my wife has been nothing short of life altering. I have often told her, “She makes me better.”

Here are some quotes I located and shared with the Marriage Group we have here in our area. Maybe they can be used in conversation with your spouse.

“Sensual pleasures have the fleeting brilliance of a comet; a happy marriage has the tranquility of a lovely sunset.” —Ann Landers

  1. “To get the full value of joy you must have someone to divide it with.” —Mark Twain

  2. "There is no remedy for love but to love more." —Henry David Thoreau

  3. "I believe in love. I think it just hits you and pulls the rug out from underneath you and, like a baby, demands your attention every minute of the day." —Jodi Picoult

Proverbs 18:22, "He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord." [When we men recognize that being single it not the best thing ever, we will learn to keep our eyes open for the one who GOD will use to transform our lives and offer us a greater joy and that joy brings in children]

Genesis 2:18, "18 …and the Lord God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.” [What benefit does a man have alone? Struggling is best when you have someone sharing that time of your life with you]

Proverb 12:4, "An excellent wife is the crown of her husband, but she
who causes shame is like rottenness in his bones." [Shame refers to the feeling and condition of disgrace or humiliation. What man wants that? Those feelings, though unwanted, come with the choices made in life. However, we certainly don’t want them to come from our wife’s actions. We can appreciate the woman who helps us to stand again, when we make poor decisions. You ladies are out there. We need to love you well]

"Love recognizes no barriers. It jumps hurdles, leaps fences, penetrates walls to arrive at its destination full of hope.” [Although there are limits, there is not much I will not do for my wife. I am aware that she feels the same about me]

"Where there is love there is life" [What living organism do you know of that grows up strong and into its life’s potential when it is mistreated, abused and feels unwanted?]

"A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person.” [Oh man! I often find myself staring across the table at her. …just looking at her face and seeing the beauty that is there and processing the changes she has undergone during our journey together. What a ‘lady’]

"I am nothing special, of this I am sure. I am a common man with common thoughts and I’ve led a common life. There are no monuments dedicated to me and my name will soon be forgotten, but I’ve loved another with all my heart and soul, and to me, this has always been enough.” [Wow!]

"If I had a flower for every time thought of you… I could walk through my garden forever.” [This is kinda cheesy, but cute non-the-less. My wife loves flowers. Does yours?]

"Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage.” [Truth. I have made some huge leaps because my wife’s words and support has paved the way for me to do so]

"We’re all a little weird. Life is a little weird. When we find someone, whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall into mutually satisfying weirdness–and call it love–true love.” [You have no idea. The “us” we have is soooo out there!]

"What greater thing is there for two human souls, than to feel that they are joined for life–to strengthen each other in all labor, to rest on each other in all sorrow, to minister (serve) to each other in silent unspeakable memories at the moment of the last parting?” […and this was going well until I got to this one. “until death do us part” is a real thing, if you are unselfishly married for the right purposes]

"We loved with a love that was more than love.” [I am not certain what that is, but, I am in]

“Every heart sings a song, incomplete, until another heart whispers back. Those who wish to sing always find a song." [I am searching for tissue. I think I will just use my shirt. I was a broken and hurting man, until I met a lady who was just as broken and wounded as I was. Boom! Love just erupted]

“When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.” [It took us 4 days to figure out that we were for the other. We are now working on our third decade]

“I’m selfish, impatient and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I am out of control and at times hard to handle. If you can’t handle me at my worst, then you definitely don’t deserve me at my best.” [Me like… We all have a “worst”, but what does your best look like? Show that to your spouse more frequently than you show another]

"Love doesn’t just sit there, like a stone, it has to be made, like bread; remade all the time, made new.” [It is the act of always being molded and always adding different ingredients to add to what is already tasty]

"Who, being loved, is poor?” [Right?]

“A great marriage is not when the ‘perfect couple’ comes together. It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.” [Why do people think that they are not messy and problematic?]

“There is no more lovely, friendly, and charming relationship, communion or company than a good marriage.” [Who else can you trust like that? Who else knows your flaws, weaknesses and struggles and loves you through them all, and still wants to have your children and grow old together?]
