Breadbox

(The Bread Box is used in the Bridges Environment)

Every gathering a community “box" is placed in the center of the table. Each new person (visitor) scribbles down a topic of interest on a strip of paper and places it in the box.

That topic may come from something he or she is currently walking through, feeling, or has recently experienced. It may be a hurt, misunderstanding or, a curiosity of something read in the Bible at some point.

“Yeshua (Jesus) is the Bread for our lives.”

Which means… He is the Very Sustenance that is needed for living. He is the One Who holds us together and gives us the Nourishment that is required for healing, hope and restoration in our spirit, soul and body.

When something is tossed into the “box”, it becomes “seed” for the “Bread Box.” It is from there; we look to the Word to find the Nourishment (answers) together as a group.

Each week, when each topic is selected, everyone studies that subject to be discussed the next time we gather. Everyone shares what he or she learned during those two weeks of research for that specific “situational journey.” As the sharing moves around the room, eventually a crosstalk generates and edifying and encouraging discussions takes place. It is not unusual that someone will share a personal experience concerning that “Situation Topic” time of sharing. Did you get that? We are sharing the bread that came from the seed of hope that was planted into the box.

The beauty of it all is the oneness that is felt and realized when we all dig-in and share what we learned, and no-one departs unfed, feeling forgotten or alone.

We use the Bible as the main Source of answers and hope. People are conduits of that cohesion.

Before the evening ends, we reach in to select another topic. As time rolls along, we plan social activities to help the wounded and hurting to regain their strength and feeling of belonging and self-worth.
