Mocking GOD

The amazing thing about Scripture is, you can find almost any answer you want to life in There. I have found [learned] that not every word in English, Greek or Latin has an equal word in the language of the people of GOD’s Son--Hebrew.

The Love and Kindness of the Creator despised the contempt that His people showed towards one another.

Verbal mistreatment was extremely frowned upon by Him.  Imagine what He thought of someone who spewed that hatred towards Him.  The verb laag largely expresses the act of mocking or deriding someone or even “the Land”. His Land! Laag was used to describe actions or speech that belittled, ridiculed, or treated someone with contempt.

There are innumerable accounts of men and women who “mocked” GOD, His Ways, His Spirit and His Son (think about those who do it today). Out of anger, misguidedness and straight-forward disbelief, those individuals speak unintelligibly about or towards Him.  …foolishness!

Galatians 6:7 states: "Do not be deceived: God is not to be mocked. Whatever a man sows, he will reap in return."  In a nutshell, this can be understood as the Creator of the world and all that is in it will not tolerate being ridiculed or treated with contempt.

James was spot-on concerning the nature of human anger and its discrepancy with GOD’s righteousness: “My beloved brothers, understand this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger, for man’s anger does not bring about the righteousness that GOD desires” -James 1:19–20

Everyone has trouble in their life span. While we may yearn for a life free from pain, the reality is that pain is an inevitable part of the human experience. We will all encounter challenges, setbacks, and heartbreaks along our journey. Some people will take that emotion out on others, causing unfathomable amounts of emotional and physical wreckage.

“Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Instead, fear the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell” -Matthew 10:28

Instead of communicating with the Being Who can understand and support all that destructive state he or she may be in, they violently lash out. These tirades and outbursts can become something that individual did not count on.

“…and they said to the mountains and the rocks, ‘fall on us and hide us from the face of the One seated on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb; for the great day of Their wrath has come, and who is able to withstand it?” -Revelation 6:16-17

Could blasphemy come into play? Most certainly. While I am confident my LORD is able to decipher between emotions and badly informed ranting, there are those who may be severely influenced by the entity that wants their soul in hell with him.

Reviling GOD is not the way to go, even if you chose to use the “measure of faith” He provided for you at creation to follow your enemy, Satan, through plain ole ignorance and pride. He has mercy, kindness and pity for you. He is your heavenly Father. Still… He will give you ample opportunities to fix your sinful blunders.

Scripturally, the word that best reflects extreme mockery (blasphemy) is called chilul Hashem, which means the desecration of GOD's name [character]. The penalty for blasphemy in the Bible is stoning to death.

In ancient Israelite culture, the concept of honor and shame was significant. To despise or reject someone, especially their GOD, was not only a personal injury but also a communal and spiritual issue.

The Israelites were in a covenant relationship with Yah, and to spurn, reject or treat Him with contempt was to violate that covenant. When this was done, it often led to social and religious consequences. If you recall, Prophets frequently warned against such behavior, emphasizing the need for repentance and reverence.

Per a message from Ezekiel: Chapter 35

10 “Since you have said, ‘These two nations and these two lands will be mine, and we will possess them,’ although the Lord was there, 11 therefore as I live,” declares the Lord GOD, “I will deal with you according to your anger and according to your envy which you displayed because of your hatred for them; so I will make Myself known among them when I judge you. 12 Then you will know that I, the Lord, have heard all your insults which you have spoken against the mountains of Israel saying, ‘They are desolate; they have been given to us as food.’ 13 Also, you have spoken arrogantly against Me and have multiplied your words against Me; I Myself have heard it.” 14 This is what the Lord GOD says: “As all the earth rejoices, I will make you a desolation. 15 As you rejoiced over the inheritance of the house of Israel because it was desolate, so I will do to you. You will be a desolation, Mount Seir, and all Edom, all of it. Then they will know that I am the Lord.”’

REMINDER: People should not think they can get away with mocking GOD, as they will one day have to answer to Him for their actions.

Once more, "…for whatever a man sows, this and this only is what he will reap". It goes on to say that those who sow to their flesh will reap destruction, but those who sow to the Spirit will reap eternal life. Since God is Perfect (holy) and always right and good, we would be foolish to mock Him. We can mock Him by our words or by our behavior or lifestyle.

Not living up to what He placed you on the earth for is somewhat like mocking His Wisdom and intent He has for you. You are mocking, cheating and mistreating Him. Cheating Him out of what causes Him pleasure (seeing His creation honor, obey and bless Him) would be considered as displaying scornful or contemptuous speech or behavior. If you and I look at it closely, we will notice that it conveys a sense of ridicule or belittlement towards His Sovereign Ways.

Even today, mockery could be seen as a challenge to one's honor. In Biblical times, it was often associated with the wicked or foolish.

“…but I will show you whom you should fear: Fear the One who, after you have been killed, has authority to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear Him!” -Luke 12:5
